The Ghost's Arm
by Clair

No one ever believes the following because, to be completely honest, it sounds ridiculous but nevertheless it happened. It took place about 13 or 14 years ago when I was about 14 and I was making tea for my parents who were working in my family's shop in Sussex, England. As I stirred the tea in the pot, I saw out of the corner of my eye a lady's arm reach out (it was certainly a lady's arm as it was covered by a lilac sleeve with white lace around the cuff and she had a very slender pale hand). I didn't take much notice as I assumed I was just seeing things, as you do sometimes. But then the hand reached out and touched the top of a Nescafé coffee jar and moved it about two feet toward me, scraping it along the counter.

God only knows why, but I said, "I'm not making coffee; I'm making tea. Please put that back where you found it." But by that point the arm disappeared and the jar wasn't moved again. I wasn't scared, but it has intrigued me ever since, mostly because I have no idea why a ghost would make itself known to a 14-year-old girl by making a coffee jar move along the counter!

Now you can see why people don't believe me, but if I made it up I'd make it a lot more interesting than moving a coffee jar -- believe me! Prior to the event, I was not much interested in ghosts or the paranormal, but once I spoke with my parents about it (around five minutes later serving them tea!) it seems my mum, her mum, and my uncle had also seen several ghosts. I was also told that when I was three or four, I had insisted several times that there was a woman in a red dress who was sitting in a rocking chair that didn't exist watching us. I think I scare my mum a fair bit sometimes! Still, it's kind of interesting and I'm glad it was a good experience and nothing to be scared of!
