Old Hag, Weird Lights and Moving Objects
by Don L.

My story took place in a time span of two days in October of 2000. I lived in this old apartment in Montreal, Canada. It all started on Saturday morning at about 3 a.m. I was coming back from a night out when I saw a white figure about seven feet tall pass through my bedroom. (I was sitting on the couch in the living room, and my bedroom door is adjacent to the living room.) I didn't make a fuss about it and blamed it on tiredness. (Up to that point, I wasn't really freaked out. I am a firm believer in the paranormal.) The next morning I decided to start doing some house cleaning. As I was putting some clothing in the dryer, I saw in the corner of my eye a small light floating around. As I turned to see what it was, it was gone (obviously). Again not making a deal out of it, I decided to keep up the cleaning. In the afternoon (that's when it started to freak me out), I sat down on the couch and decided to do a little surfing on my laptop. We had a coffee table at the end of the couch, and suddenly two small lights started to chase each other over the table. Not knowing what to make of it, I started to tell the lights to behave. And they did! The lights slowly stopped and disappeared.

I called my mother (she is also a firm believer) and told her what just happened. I was now walking back and forth in the apartment trying to explain what had just happened. I hung up the phone and proceeded to go into my room when the first frightening thing happened. We had a big plant-like tree in the house (the kind you put into a big porcelain vase). It was placed in the hallway; the hallway had an encave so that the plant wouldn't be in the way. Three small lights started floating around in front of me in the hallway. They were standing in mid-air and were lined in front of me - as if to stop me from passing, blocking my path. That's when I made a small mistake. Being the hardheaded guy, I decided to go through them. BAD IDEA! The plant moved about a foot to block my way! I froze and told the lights (I don't know why but I had the weird feeling that it was kids that were playing with me, it wasn't evil) to stop it and to be nice. The lights started toward me and stopped in front of my face. Then they turned around and went into my room. I followed, but to no avail; they were gone.

The rest of the day went without incident, except that I always felt watched and/or uncomfortable. That night I decided to hit the sack early (probably tired because of all the events of the past day). I knew of the old hag syndrome, but I never actually experienced it until that particular weekend (twice). I was in bed with eyes wide open when a shadow came to me blocking my entire view. I could hear weird words spoken, more like whispers in a language I didn't know. As I tried to speak (but could only make out a weird moan), my head was filled with a terrible sound - a whistle-like sound. It was so loud that I had to close my eyes. As I opened them, the shadow was gone. I started to unparalyze and my senses came back. I was sweaty from all this, and decided to go to the fridge for a drink. I knew the old hag syndrome happened to you while in a semi sleep state, but now I was awake. The shadow started in the hallway and proceeded to come right in front of me. Now I'm not paralyzed and REALLY, REALLY frightened. I ran back in my room and closed and locked the door. I went to sleep (not!) and nothing happened for the rest of the night.

The next morning, I went to get groceries, like every Sunday morning. After the grocery shopping, I decided to stop at McD's for a quick meal that I would eat home when I came back. As I was unlocking the front door, I saw through the door window that the lights were back, and now they were really having a blast. They were rocketing through the entire house chasing each other. I unlocked the door and came in. As soon as I came in, the lights stopped and disappeared. I put the groceries down and I surprised myself talking to the lights. I told them that we could all live here if they didn't scare me or startle me. They could even help me. The weirdest thing happened then. As I was smoking a cigarette, I was staring at my pack on the kitchen table when it started to slowly move away from me. I stopped staring and it stopped moving. I was in disbelief now. I couldn't move this - not me. So I started to stare at something else and thought, what the hell, let's try. To my great surprise, every item I was looking at was slowly moving to where I wanted it to move. I started to unpack the groceries, while munching on my McD's. After the unpacking, I sat down and watched TV for a while. The lights came back, but from behind me this time. I added one and one (and it seemed that the lights were somewhat responsible for my moving stuff). I experienced all afternoon on my new-found powers, moving all sorts of small items. This took place for about three hours I tried to move anything and everything. And to my surprise, I could. By that time the lights were roaming freely around the house; they didn't seem to bother me that much anymore. I couldn't explain it in words, but let's just say that I felt like I was in another state of mind during that period.

I suddenly felt tired physically and mentally, so I decided to take a nap in the living room. As I was dozing off, I saw the lights come across the living room and speeding out through the front door. I clearly heard the word "goodbye" being spoken. And guess what - it was a child's voice! I fell asleep quietly, and nothing of that sort ever happened again. Weird, isn't it? If you don't believe me, that's fine. I wouldn't believe you if you were the one telling the story. But one thing is sure: it really took place.
