Haunted Houses
by Jaymie

My mother told me not to dabble with the darker side of nature. She said this when I started mucking about with a Ouija board. It struck me as weird that she would warn me about it as my mother believes in nothing. I began contacting one entity - "Keith" - constantly and became "friends" with him. I introduced him through my board to a friend. Keith enjoyed having two girls' attention, so spoke to both of us regularly. My friend then introduced him to another friend and Keith fell in love. He barely ever spoke to me again. Keith was very obnoxious and "horny."

I moved house and although I did not completely stop using the board, I did not hear from Keith again. We were told the flat was haunted, and soon realized that the numerous witnesses were right. We would hear what sounded like chains being dragged up the stairs at night. We would glimpse at people walking up the rear stairs at night, only to find nobody had been up there. Occasionally, we would all be downstairs, in a party of 10-15 people, and nobody would be in the upstairs flat. We heard massive thumps land in each room of the upstairs flat. People described it as "like a giant was jumping through walls and jumping from room to room." Each time this happened ,the non-believers would jump up and all try to entrap the "person "who was upstairs. Each time they returned empty handed and looking baffled.

We saw lights deep in the backyard, near on old tree with a swing tied up in it. They burned like candles, and residents would see them through the window and go down and try to find them. One night, the men were convinced they had seen an intruder in the backyard near the tree. They thought someone was trying to steal the motor bike, but a group of them once again came back empty-handed. Silly ghost tricks were always happening, like once my mate said, "Do you really think this house is haunted?" and the blind we were standing next to shot up its roller and we jumped out of our pants! I heard my name being whispered through the house countless times while I was alone. It was hard to cope with.

One day, I was sitting on my own when all of a sudden all the occupants from the upstairs flat burst in the door. Apparently, all of the light globes had popped out of their own accord at exactly the same time. We moved. I had lost a baby at birth and we had no more ghostly experiences until I broke up with the baby's father. Again the paranormal became obvious to my guests who would say they could hear a baby crying. The spirit baby would cry all the time and made me very sad. You could walk toward the crying but it always stopped when you got to the rear of the house. My daughter (living) and my housemate's daughter would have their bedroom door opened while they were in their cots, sometimes we would find them laying on the floor asleep, next to the cot as though someone had lifted them up and placed them on the floor. Right before I moved, a tapping began in my bedroom. I thought it was rats, so we fumigated, but the tapping persisted. The tapping was very musical, and I actually thought someone was fooling with me.

One night, the tapping was close to my head, and I opened my eyes to see a hand reaching out around the wall, tapping. When I looked, the hand withdrew. I got up and checked in the adjoining bathroom but no-one was there. My Boyfriend saw a figure standing in our room at night, dressed in what looked like a gray business suit. The man said, "GET OUT." That totally freaked me out, but I soon came to feel that it was not so much my bedroom that was haunted, but the adjoining bathroom. It was just a cold, unwelcome room, that made you feel really weak, and the feeling that someone was watching you. I was once just beginning to talk myself out of the weird feeling when I said to myself, "Nobody's watching me" and the cover of the exhaust fan flew down and struck the shower screen. That was it for me. I screamed until somebody came in. I was frozen to the spot. I eventually moved out, almost accepting that this paranormal activity was going to be around wherever I went, but since living here in this new house, I only had one thing happened. I said, "I've told the spirits not to follow me, I think it's worked." Then the bathroom mirror fell off the wall and smashed to smithereens.
