Black
Window Pane

As a young girl, my mom lived with her parents and siblings in a mill village. The houses were much alike and were fairly large. A new family moved into one of the houses near the house mom shared with her family. The new neighbor seemed friendly enough, but mom said there was something different about the man. He and his wife had two or three small children. One day the man was home alone. When his family returned, they found the man hanging from a rope in the front room of the house near a window. A few months after the incident the family moved out of the house and when the owner went in the house to get it ready for another tenant, he noticed the window pane in the front room had turned grayish or black looking. They tried to clean it unsuccessfully, so they had a new window pane installed. The new tenants moved in, but within a matter of weeks the same window pane had discolored. Mom said when she and her family moved from the village the window pain was still discolored.
