Dorm Ghost
by Ben S.
While attending a Midwestern college in 1996, I witnessed a large flat pane of light, which hung right in the center of my dorm room for around 10 seconds before disappearing. It was intensely bright, around five feet in height, and appeared in the evening, when the curtains were closed and the only light source in the room was a small lamp. The light did not reflect onto any of the walls, nor were there any shadows cast by it. I also felt a distinct presence of something else being in the room at the time, and I also had this feeling at other times, even though I never saw the light but once.
My roommate also saw this bright pane of light when she was alone in the room early one morning, and also felt as if she was being watched at several different times. Talking to other girls in this dorm, one girl said that if she laid books on her desk and then left the room. When she returned, the books would be stacked, one on top of the other. This also happened on occasions when she was asleep and then would wake up. Another dorm resident said that the previous year, she and some friends were watching TV in her room when they all appeared to see, out of the corner of their eyes, the upper half of a male figure materialize through the door, then disappear.
The dormitory building was a newer one, built in the middle 1970s, with no history of any deaths in or around it. The college itself dates back to the 1850s. I can't say I was utterly frightened of what was in the dorm, but the sense of being watched was unnerving at times. I'm a pretty sensible person, so I didn't crack out the old Ouija board to try to communicate with whatever it was. I figure it didn't mind being able to hang around in girls' rooms!
