Queen Mary Ghost
by Anthony L.

When I was nine years old, my family and I were on a holiday in Los Angeles in 1993. We were staying for three days on the Queen Mary ship that was then being used as a hotel (not sure if it still is). When we first entered the ship, there was a glass cabinet full of books and stories about the ship and its history. One of the articles said something about "the grey man," a ghostly figure that some passengers had reported to have seen walking the hallways of the ship over the years, supposedly the ships captain. I didn't really pay that much attention to the article as we were all excited to be on holiday and were looking forward to seeing the ship inside.

Our room was split into two bedrooms, with two beds in each one. For some reason, me and my mum ended up sleeping in one room, and my brother and dad in the other. The rooms and furniture were very old looking in style (obviously the hotel theme). The whole stay was very good, and it wasn't until the last night that we had the encounter. After we had finished for the day, we went back to the room and went to bed. My mum was asleep almost right away, and I was left there staring at the ceiling waiting to get tired. After about an hour of listening to my mum's breathing, I heard a voice say something like, "Don't sleep" a bit louder than a whisper. You may be thinking that it could have been my mother perhaps talking in her sleep, but the voice was definitely male, and it was too clear to be coming from the other room where my dad and brother were sleeping. I could feel my heart beat faster, and the fear was making my head throb. I pulled the sheets up over my face took about 10 minutes to calm down.

I managed to get to sleep, but at about 4 a.m., I woke suddenly to see a misty figure standing in the corner of the room. It looked very much like the "brown lady" photograph you have on your site. For some reason, I was not afraid. Normally, I would be terrified of anything like that. I just laid there looking at it for about half an hour, not wanting to say anything to my mum just incase I disturbed it. I heard my mum's bed sheets moving and I heard her stand up and start walking. It was still dark and I could only just see her walking toward the mist. She stood right there next to it and pushed the light switch. As soon as the light came on, the mist was gone. I asked my mum, "Why did you turn the lights on?" She said, "There was something in the corner." As soon as she said that, I realized what I had seen was real.
