Something in My
Room
by Pom L.
This happened to me when I was 15 and living in my current house. I was asleep one night when something woke me. I laid there trying to get back to sleep when I heard a noise. It sounded like someone was rubbing the wallpaper with their hands. The first few times I thought I was hearing things, but it just continued.
The room was pitch black and my eyes were not adjusted, so I could not see what it was. So I laid there for about half an hour hoping it would just stop. It didn't so I got up and turned on the light. Twenty seconds passed... then the noise started again. I searched the room and managed to locate the source of the noise. It was indeed coming from the wall, near the floor. The wall was only millimeters thick (the other side was another bedroom, at that point unoccupied). I racked my brains to figure out what was causing it. There couldn't be an animal trapped in the wall; there would not be enough space.
I opened my bedroom door, walked down the hall and turned off the house alarm. I then checked the other side of the wall. the noise continued, but on this side it was more muffled, as if it was coming from my room. I walked to the other side of the house and woke my dad, my dad came into my room to investigate, the noise continued. My dad was tired and had work early the next day. He said that it probably was an animal and told me to just try and ignore it. My dad went back to bed; the house alarm was on again.
I turned out the light and tried to fall asleep. the rubbing noises continued on and off for about an hour. Then it just stopped... Just as I was falling asleep, however, I heard a moan outside my window, and that moan turned to the sound of a baby screaming. I cant tell you how frightening it sounded. At this point, I knew something very strange was going on. The moans and screams continued for what seemed like a lifetime. Every time it screamed, I felt a terrible feeling of dread. With all the noise, I was amazed nobody had burst into my room to see what was going on. I don't know how I did it, but eventually I fell asleep. I must have just been so tired I could sleep through anything.
The worst was to come, however. Later that night, God knows what time, I was awakened with a winded feeling in my stomach, as if I had just been punched really hard. I was lying face down and my bed covers were right over my head. I had the most awful feeling that somebody was standing right over me. I clutched onto my sheets tight and closed my eyes and just prayed to God that I would fall asleep again. I heard the wall rubbing noise again, which sounded so much scarier at this point. I just kept thinking, why is this happening to me? As I was lying there with all this fear around me, I was psyching myself to get up and flick the light switch on. I felt something grab the bed sheet near my shoulder. All my fear seemed to turn to anger as I realized I wasn't going to get out of this without a confrontation with whatever this was.
My bed sheet was suddenly pulled away down to my waist. Although I had my eyes closed, I could tell where this thing was from the way it pulled my covers. I laid there for about five seconds feeling totally vulnerable, and then, in total desperation I just screamed as loud as I could and swung my fist around to where I guessed the thing was standing. To my surprise, my hand hit nothing. I quickly got up, braced myself to be attacked and hit the light switch as fast as I could. I looked around the room... nothing there. I couldn't believe it, there was nothing there at all. I heard my dad disarming the house alarm and he came into my room to find me breathing heavily. He asked me what was going on. I told him and he didn't believe me. It was about 5 a.m. at this point and still dark.
My dad started to get ready for work and I just lay there with the light on until the sun came up. At breakfast I was telling everyone what I had seen and heard. They were just coming up with logical explanations. "You dreamt it" and "It was probably just a bird or cat outside," but nothing will ever convince me that what I experienced never happened.
