The Vision
by Connie D.

Strange little things have always happened around me since as far back as I can remember. Maybe being part Cherokee, I have always sensed the spirits close to me. My sense of intuition has been a very strong part of my life and security, which has helped me avoid a lot of mistakes and enjoy many favors that life has offered.

Last summer, I had planned to drive to an outlet mall about one hour away across the Alabama line from my home in Pensacola, Florida (which I have done numerous times before). This day, I awoke with a lot of uneasiness about going by myself, and struggled for a couple of hours with this while I dressed and made ready for the little trip. I even called my husband at the office and asked if he thought I should go and that I had been feeling like I should not. He said... GO and enjoy!

Just about 20 minutes before I had planned to leave, I had what I can only call a vision! This was as clear as if I were watching a program on TV. I saw myself driving in my Jeep Cherokee on the interstate listening to music, when I came upon an old school bus that had been painted light blue with the name of a Church on it, which is common in the South. It was holding traffic up a little so I decided to pass using the left lane. As I passed, I looked at my right and clearly saw the driver, an older man, who looked back with a terrified expression and at the same time, the bus suddenly jerked over into my lane and I pulled hard to the left to avoid the crash. As I did so, at the speed I was traveling into the median, I lost control of my car and began to flip over and over. I saw it all and felt the gripping fear as if it were happening at that moment. I knew I had died at this time. It came and went in the same manner... like a dream while awake.

I could not understand why I would have this. My mother had suddenly passed away two years earlier, and I had been in a pretty depressed state, so I though maybe I was losing it. I sat for a while and thought about this. I decided I had had some sort of paranoid delusion and decided to go anyway, as part of my way to try to overcome this. I was nervous, but turned my music on and drove on. Each mile was helping me to be more at ease. I kept my mind on family matters and drove on! About 35 minutes into the drive, I saw a light blue bus ahead in the slow lane and traffic was passing it on the left. As I got closer, I saw it had the name of the church painted on it that I saw in my "vision."

It was slowing everyone down, I had to make a decision to either follow it or pass it. After a few miles, I decided to pass. I was cautiously driving as far to the left as I could and sped up a bit more. As I passed, I HAD to look to my right and saw the same older man's face as in the vision. He looked at me and suddenly looked really scared and his bus pulled strongly into my lane! I was almost surely expecting this and instead of braking and pulling to the left, as before, I held on with both hands and stepped on the accelerator and went slightly off road to avoid the certain collision with the bus! I thought my heart was going to explode. I looked into my rear mirror after I got better control of the Cherokee and saw the bus had slowed almost to a stop and was pulling over. The driver was shaken, but did not appear to be hurt. His passengers were still in their seats.

Now, I have thought of this many times in the last year. If I had not been forewarned, I would have reacted in the same manner as in the vision. I would have certainly have rolled my car and died. I truly believe that My "vision" was my mother's influence. She was a spiritual being and had always looked out for me and "knew" things ahead of time. Maybe what we refer to as intuition is actually our loved one's that have passed on before influencing us... if we listen.

I cannot fully explain this, but there have been so many things along the way that have no "explanation." Last week, I was awakened at 4:30am by singing. I listened for a while and heard "Silent Night." It was faint and sounded like it was coming form the hallway by the office. It was my mother's voice, as only she could sing. I sat for a little bit and decided to follow the sound. As I began to get off the bed, it just slowly became fainter and just disappeared. I was fully awake and I know my Mother's voice. I have her on many cassettes that she recorded for me and my sister. It was a wonderful morning!
