Message from the Future
by Unicorn

I have just read an article on one of the items of time travel. I had a very similar experience through our TV in the '80s. Half way through watching a film one evening, the TV went blank, then a message came through from a well-dressed suited woman who was telling us we would have to save the world. A large screen was then shown on the TV and flashes of pictures were put upon the screen: war, suffering, famous people, Hitler, queen, etc.

It was strange. At the time we thought it was a new channel starting. (This was before Sky Channel was on, so this made no sense to us.) When I asked various people the next day if they saw it, no one seemed to know what I was speaking about. Apparently, it was for just my family alone.

Reader Nick Smith responds:

I don`t know whether or not you are interested in solving the mysteries you post, however I can help "Unicorn" who saw a supposed TV broadcast from the future.

It was a bizarre ad for "First Direct" that appeared to interrupt an ad for gardening tools or something mundane and featured a very grainy image of an oriental woman with all manner of futuristic and historical images overlapping. She claims to be broadcasting from the year 2036 and sends us a message of hope, then it cuts back to the original ad.

I saw it too and spent the next 10 years asking people if they saw it too. No one ever seemed to have remembered it. I eventually submitted it to the Fortean Times website "It happened to me" where several respondents explained that what I really was beginning to believe was a message from one of our potential futures, was in fact some ad-man's idea of the future of banking!

I still wish I had seen what I thought I saw. It's much more romantic.
