A few months ago, while trying to convince my son that although it was summertime, he still needed to go to bed at a reasonable time. I had to go to work in the morning and he had to go to the YMCA. He finally went to bed at 9:00 p.m. I stayed downstairs and watched TV. At about 10:20 p.m., I heard what sounded like a pen rolling around on my husband’s desk, which is located outside my son’s room, on our loft overlooking the living room. Then I heard what sounded like a tennis ball bouncing against the wall. As the sound got louder and louder, the bouncing intensified. It sounded like it was bouncing off all the walls.
At this point being very annoyed, I lost it and began screaming at my son. How can you be playing around at this time of night? Of course when I yelled, the noise stopped. A few seconds later my terrified son came out with his Swiss army knife in tow and said, "Mom, it's not me making the noise, but I heard it too." Trying to calm his fears, I said, "Oh, must have been your dad." He replied, "Dad is sound asleep."
At the time, we had no animals and no one else in the house. We bought our house new in 1996. Also, whenever we sleep downstairs, at about 10:30 every night a very loud noise can be heard in our kitchen. It sounds like a book is being slammed on the counter. It wakes me or my husband from a sound sleep and sends us running up stairs. I guess our ghost wants to sleep on the couch.
