Memories of Heaven
by Betty B.

Many years ago when my son, now 43, was only three years of age, each day we lay down to take a nap and I would tell him the same story, "Hansel and Gretal." On this particular day, I was kind of tired so I said, "Karl, I'm kind of tired. Could you tell me a story today? He was so sweet. He started, "One day when I was in Heaven, I asked God to let me come back down to earth with my mommie." Well, I just turned and looked at Karl, and I said, "Then what?" He said, "No, it's not your time yet. God said that. I cried and said, 'Please, God, let me go and live with my mommie,' and God said, 'Ok, I'll let you go, but you can't take your sister Auden with you.' " Then I just looked at Karl and said, "What is it like in Heaven, Karl?" He said, "Everyone wears hats, and there are no toys there." I asked him how he got here, and he said, "Stairs... lots of stairs. I came down all those stairs, and here I am." Well, I was flabbergasted, to say the least. At that time I had not taken Karl to church; I wasn't even going at that time. And another thing, the first word that Karl spoke was Auden. He would call that name when he was only one year old. We always tried to figure out what he was trying to say. He was calling his sister.
