Five-Minute Trip Through Time
by Jeremy W.

When I was 17 years old in September of 1997, I experienced time travel. It was dark out at 9:00 p.m. on my way to the store to pick up some pop and snacks to enjoy a movie. Oddly, I had synchronized my watch and alarm clock the day before. On my way to the store, I noticed two younger guys (looked like they were brothers). What surprised me was a comment they made about me. I heard them clearly. They were walking only about 25-30 feet away. The younger brother (or the shorter guy) said to the other, out loud, "Hey, didn't we just see that guy?" He looked and pointed at me. I then looked more directly at them, feeling a bit perplexed. I had not been outside all day; I was at home playing video games. I saw they had just come from the same store I was headed over to, because of the shopping bags each was holding. At the moment, I thought nothing more of what they commented because then it did not make any sense to me.

From where I live, the store is a five minute walk from my home. I was only two minutes into the walk when I saw a glossy light in my eyes. The light did not seem to have a source and only lasted for four or five seconds. Also, a spinning sensation made me feel sick. When it was over, I was still standing and felt fine. I didn't know what to think of that! Needless to say, I made it to the store.

And now for the punch line of this story. Upon arriving to the store, about to enter it through the automatic door, I saw the two guys exit the door - the same two who made the odd comment about me! They were still holding their bags. We again looked at each other, but this time they said nothing. Now I admit this is not unusual, but there is no way for them to get back to that store. I saw them walk into their building. We live in the same apartment complex! Where I live, the area is wide open, so I would have seen if they had ran back! You can see everything between the store and the apartments.

I found it strange to be meeting them again, and could not understand how they got back. And I still was not thinking time travel. I spent around 7-8 minutes in the store and went back home without incident. When I walked back in, my mother asked if I had run to and back from the store. I also found that strange because I had not; I walked the way to and back from the store! She said to me that I was only gone for 18 minutes. I looked at my watch: it was at least 25 minutes that I was gone to the store! She told me no, that she was watching the clock the moment that I left. I went to my bedroom and looked at my alarm clock and it was five minutes and 30 seconds slower than my watch! I had just synchronized the alarm clock to my watch the day before! And I've been stuck in the past ever since.
