When I was five, my parents decided to move to the South and purchase 40 acres of land. On that land my father built our home. The house he built looked like an old slave plantation home. From the day we moved in, strange happenings have occurred in different instances. Everyone knows that in the South, especially in the area that I moved to, there have been battles fought by native Americans, Confederate soldiers, etc.
I never really liked the room in the house that my parents had chosen for me; it always gave me an eerie feeling and a sense that I wasn't the only "person" in that room. The only instance that I can remember (possibly because I may have blocked out the rest) is when I was at the age of 12. I just finished my usual preparations for tucking myself in. My room was pitch black at the time because there are no street lights where we live. I was saying my prayers and slowly began falling asleep...
That is when I felt something or someone in the room with me. It got to the point where I was completely terrified. I opened my eyes and saw before me what looked like a Confederate soldier standing at the foot of my bed. There was enough light coming in from the moon outside, enough for me to recognize that it was a soldier before me. He stared at me with a blank emotionless look on his face, as if he didn't understand why he was there. I quickly threw the covers up over my head and stayed that way frozen in fear until that morning. When I awoke I stressed to my mother in detail what I experienced that night. She laughed it off and brushed it off as the overactive imagination of a 12 year old.
