Ghostly Goings-On
by Susan S.

I have experienced some very strange things in my house. I moved in this house, (it is a duplex) in 1996. Absolutely nothing happened until I got married in May of 1997, and my new husband and his two children moved in with me. Then things started happening, gradually at first. The first thing that happened, my husband saw an apparition of a woman in our backyard, and he was the skeptical one! I, on the other hand, had experienced things before, and was not skeptical, but I saw nothing and never have seen anything. But I sure have heard plenty and have even been physically touched.

I am going to try and make a long story short. My husband and I had a lot of problems and we were separated three times during our four year marriage. My husband is now deceased (more on that later).

I first noticed an angel figurine I had on my bedroom dresser, started moving. I did not see it move, but every day it would be just a little closer to the edge of the shelf on the dresser. I would put it back and the next day, it would have moved again. Then I started hearing loud popping noises throughout the house, mainly in the attic. I brushed this off as an old house settling, but even when the weather is calm and perfect, the house still pops very loudly, day and night.

When my husband and I separated for the second time and he moved out, I would stay over at my mother's, she lives in the apartment next door, as I said our house is a duplex. Both she and I would hear footsteps next door at night and in the daytime. Also when I would be over at my mother's, both she and I have heard my screen door and my front door open and close, very fast, and very loud indeed, on more than one occasion. I would go over to look and absolutely no one, nothing there. We had a dog once, and myself, my mother, and the dog, who started barking, all of us heard the doors opening and slamming shut.

Perhaps the most unnerving example is when this ghost, or whatever it is, smashed one of my Christmas decorations. I had a Christmas Village, and had a Santa figurine with the date "1920" on it. It was the only figurine with a date on it. I was sitting in my chair in the living room, waiting for time to go to work, and I heard a loud crash out of total silence. Talk about chills going up and down your spine! I got up and saw that this Santa figurine had been dropped to the floor and was only broken circumferentially around the base, in two perfect pieces. The way this thing broke, it would have had to have been held and dropped, not just toppled over. Also, this figurine was much too far away from the edge of the table it was on to have just fallen off.

Okay, now I will talk about what happened after my husband's death. I had been living on the other side and had not kept up the other side very well and in the kitchen, there was a piece of wallpaper that had fallen down and I had made myself a note to fix it. As soon as I moved back to my side and brought my husband's ashes with me, that same day, I went into the kitchen and the wallpaper was fixed! As if it had never been hanging down!

On another occasion, I was sitting at my makeup table in my bedroom putting on my makeup, and a doll that my husband had bought me for Christmas the year before that was still in the box, the plastic started popping all by itself, over and over again. When I spoke up and said "Yeah, Yeah, I know you're there," it stopped!

There have been other incidents too, the television popping on in the middle of the night, blasting away at top volume, voices that sound as if though they were having a conversation, but if you follow the sound it just gets farther away, also heard by myself and my mother. Single audible voices, one male and one female. The male voice said "NO!" very emphatically. The female voice just kind of whimpers and cries.

I was physically touched once while I was lying in bed, not asleep. What felt like a human finger touched me lightly on the neck, but man, was I angry. I turned around and sat up in bed and told that thing to never touch me again. And it hasn't.

Well I guess everyone will think I am crazy, but so what? It's good to know from reading stories on this website that I am not the only one. I could tell more about what happened to me as a child, but maybe I will some other time.
