The Stone Throne
by John K.

I've been interested in history, the Bible and unexplained mysteries for most of my adult life. I've spent many hours on the Internet exploring such. Living in Montana, I have had the opportunity to explore several caves in my state, including the well-known Lewis and Clark caverns. I have discovered a few things that might interest you.

On an exploring hike in the Little Belt mountains, I was shown a 5-ft. diameter hole not 20 feet from a county road. It was referred to as the bottomless pit. After dropping several large rocks into the hole, I concluded that the "pit" was indeed very deep. Sometime this summer I plan to return to this place with a fishing pole and A LOT of fishing line. I have also entertained thoughts of dropping my camcorder down the hole on fishing line. I would think that at the bottom there might be something of interest. I would be happy to find antique beer cans or animal remains... who knows?

It seems important to mention that the area we were in is primarily limestone and that the river that flows through this canyon disappears for about a mile at a place called the water gap leaving a dry bed that only contains water during spring runoff.

On this same day, we hiked an unusual rock formation. From the road we observed a large natural bridge, a smaller hole that we called the keyhole that allowed us to see the sky through the mountain, and two large cave-like depressions stacked on top of each other in a 300-foot cliffside. Our curiosity led us to the bottom of these two caves. We tried to enter them, but the entry was steep and loose... we never could see the back of these depressions. Our hike led us over the natural bridge and to the top of the cliffs where we decided to ascend to the "keyhole" to have our pictures taken. During this ascent we encountered something very unusual and approaching the paranormal...

The keyhole lies in a steep ravine littered with loose rock. As we climbed we came to a flattened area where we found something quite astounding! A large chair-shaped rock stood in the middle of this flat area. It was not very noticeable at first and 1/2 our party went right by it. Someone pointed out its resemblance to a chair and, being the type of person I am, I decided to take a rest sitting in the chair. I was amazed even before I had a chance to sit down! It was a perfect large man sized chair complete with seat, armrests and back. There even appeared to be a small footstool. I must admit it was more like a throne than a chair!

The seat of the chair seem polished and had depressions for butt cheeks, much like finer oak barstools. The backrest was smooth as well, and the armrests... well, I must say when I sat in the chair a chill went through my body. The armrests were natural and comfortable so that your hands rested on the ends. On the ends (both sides) were five perfect impressions for fingers and palm! It was as if someone had sat there for a hundred years wearing down the stone with their hands and fingers!

Incidentally, the area is well known for Indian burial grounds and pictographs.
