Ghost Encounter
by Steve Gill

I was sharing a house with a friend a few years ago. It was an old take-away shop converted back into a residence in Townsville, Queensland. Things would only happen when either of us were alone or one was asleep. It began as footsteps throughout the house (we had polished wood floorboards) when I knew I was the only one home. Didn't think a great deal of it. Then both my friend and I began to experience the scary stuff.

I would be lying in bed waiting to doze off when I could hear someone breathing about six inches away from my face, as if they were leaning right over me. After a minute or so of silently freaking out, I laughed at it (no way was I rolling over for a look) and it stopped. My house-mate surprised me by telling me he'd experienced the same thing sleeping on the lounge.

The ultimate experience was when my friend was asleep in front of the TV and I had the munchies. I went to the kitchen and noticed that the door leading out to the side of the house was open. This door had one of those bolts to lock it it, the sort with the hole for a padlock. I closed the door and shot the bolt, and after being in the kitchen long enough to throw a crumbed steak in the fry pan this enormous BANG!!! shook the walls and rattled the windows. I ran out of the kitchen to find the door I had just locked and bolted hanging open and shaking on its hinges. I guess something wanted out.

My friend's parents moved in a little later and that put an end to everything, except that their dog would freak out under the house occasionally. I moved out soon after and they never experienced anything. I do remember though that when we moved in someone had stuck a symbol on the outside of the kitchen window in silastic of an inverted triangle with a capital T inside it if that means anything to anyone. While this went on for about three months it remains my one and only encounter with a ghost.
