The Dark Shape
by Eddie

It was a night that I would never forget! I was young, I think around 10 years old. My mother and myself were staying with my grandmother in Laredo, Texas, since my father was in the military and out of the country. I was getting ready for bed on night, and turned off the light to the bedroom. The bed was positioned against the wall, which connected to the living room. The feet of the bed was located at the entrance of the door leading into the bedroom. When I crawled in bed, I was having a hard time getting to sleep. I felt restless and uneasy for some reason. I would normally fall right to sleep, but this night was different.

As I was lying there in the dark, I felt a presence in the room with me. I then noticed a figure enter the bedroom through the closed door at the feet of the bed. It made no sound and just stopped facing me. I could not make out any detail, other than it was just a dark shape – darker than the room itself. As the shape just hovered at the feet of my bed, all of a sudden it felt like I sat up, although I was still lying on the bed, very still, just watching it. The shadow then left the room and was not see again that night.

The second night was much the same, although as I was lying in bed, I couldn't help but think about what had happened the night before. I did not tell anyone about what happened, mainly due to feeling like a fool for even seeing it myself. While I was lying there, the figure came into the room again, and once again I felt as though I was sitting up out of myself, although I was still lying flat. The figure once again faded away as it left the room. I was really starting to freak out over the incident, since I knew then that the first time was not a dream.

I could not explain why this thing was making me feel like I was sitting up and leaving, when I knew I was still lying down. The more I thought about it, the more angry I became and decided that I would rush toward this shadow the next time it appeared.

Well, the wait was not long, since on the third night it happened again. This time I was ready for it and I was going to see what it was. When it entered the bedroom again and I felt as though I was sitting up again, I jumped up in the bed and rushed toward it. I remember that I had an anger in me that I can't explain and was ready for anything. The shadow exited from the room at a very fast speed. I opened the bedroom door and ran into the living room. I looked all over the house, but could not find it again. I entered my grandmother's bedroom, and she asked me if anything was wrong. I told her of the events and what had just happened. I could see the concern in her eyes as I was explaining everything to her. She told me that more than likely, it was an angel that was looking over me. I am not sure if that was the case, but I know that it made me feel better that night and I was able to sleep.

I did not see the shadow again for a very long time. Then one day, many years later, it appeared to me again. Once again I was at my grandmother's house visiting. I remember that I was in an argument with my mother, wanting to go outside. My mother would not let me leave the house, so I decided to go out anyway. As I exited the house, I was walking along the side of it and was fixing to exit the gate leading into the backyard, when the shadow figure appeared to me once again. This time it was blocking my way and would not move out of the way. I picked up a rock and threw it at the shadow, but the rock missed it by a mile. I threw several more, but continued to miss. The shadow then started to come toward me, at which time I ran back to the house and found my grandmother and my mother in the kitchen cooking. I told them what had happened and once again, my grandmother told me that it was an angel and that it was protecting me from something.

I have never seen the shadow again, and I really don't want to see it again. I am not sure what to think about this, but I do know that it was real and that I hope it never happens again.
