Horned Shadow Man
by Adam

I've always had a hard time with the telling of this story. Sometimes I get a response from people that would suggest disbelief. Other times I find others sharing thier similar stories about "shadow people," if that's what you call them.

At the age of five, my family moved to a small town known as Stead, Nevada, a suburb not far from Reno. We lived in a duplex for a few years, and I had a fairly normal childhood there. I lived with my mom, grandmother, and our dog Tasha, in the duplex and things were always just normal. The living room and the three bedrooms were separated by a length of hallway that I used to run down in my socks to slide around to race my dog to my room at night, just something a kid did before bed time. I was around six or seven by this time, and it was getting to be a regular routine in racing the dog down the hallway. Once again it was bedtime and time to run down the hallway, my dog got to the end of the hallway, after having won the race yet again, and this time she stopped cold at the very end with her ears down she began to growl, then ran back down the hallway towards the living room where my mom and grandma were.

I was still in the hallway and was curious, so I slowly turned the corner and peeked into my room. That's when I saw it. My room was ordinary, a child's bed, toy box, large window, closet, nothing special; This time I saw a dark man lurking over my bed. It wasn't like anything I had ever seen before; it was darker than my lightless room. Only dim hallway lights halfway shone into the room, yet I could make out "its'" shape indefinately. It was very tall, but again I was a child then so I would imagine it stood about six feet tall at least. I could make out contours of its body that I remember very vividly today. I could see the ridges of its backbone and two horns coming from the top of its head on either side. It stood in a hunched over manner at the shoulders; however, there was no distinct detail. It was all black, darker than the darkness of the room to the point that I could see it plainly in front of me. I was in shock that there was a man in my room and I could not speak at all. I must have made a noise then, becuase I could see the horns turn, and knew it was now looking at me.

I wondered who this person was, but when I saw the eyes, I knew for certain that this wasn't a man. I will never forget the eyes as they glared at me, glowing red and fierce. I couldn't scream, but I ran down the hallway as fast as I could back to my mom. My mom thought this was a trick I came up with to get out of going to bed, but once she saw how afraid I was, she checked my room out only to find my normal room with no dark man there at all. I didn't want to sleep in there at all that night, but I was made to. I couldn't sleep at all, so I pretended to be asleep facing the wall as I lay in my bed.

In a short while, I felt like I was being watched and I kept still. I saw a dark hand come over my right shoulder slowly. I was scared so I didn't move or make a sound. It touched me and I jumped and screamed as I turned around to see what was really there. Nothing was there at all except my normal room and a very cold feeling in my arm. I would never sleep in that room again after that, and so we moved to Reno shortly after.

I never told anyone about this until I was about 20. The person I told had shared a story with me that was pretty hard to believe, so I figured I'd give it a shot and told him about it. He stopped, then told me to check out all these Internet sites that people all over the world have seen these things EXACTLY how I had seen it. I was shocked, and after a little research I have come to believe these things are real and are among us, lurking in the shadows. I tried not to believe it myself, or to explain it logically. Was there a natural magnetic flux in that suburb area? I dont know. Could it have been a dream? Possibly, but how could I tell myself it was after feeling the cold chill right where it touched me. I was very interested in the new movie release of The Mothman Prophecies, which to me seemed very similar to my visit, and looked into that a bit for myself.

Recently, about a month ago, I was visiting my mom and younger siblings, and my sister was telling me about a dark man she has been seeing in her dreams. She is 10 years old right now and she was able to describe to me the appearance of the dark man as the same thing I had seen in my room years before she was born. I haven't told her of this story and she doesnt know there is a similarity. I am now very worried and think that maybe my family is being stalked by these creatures, or maybe even cursed. I will have to do some more research into that to be certain.

Maybe you'd call me crazy after reading this, but I couldn't care less. I know what I saw and would gladly show it to you personally if I had some way to do so. Also after reading some other stories, I am a firm believer in the existance of these dark creatures people are calling shadow people. My question is, what they would want with my family? Why was the creature I saw as a boy examining my bed so intently? Why is my sister seeing this thing in her dreams, described to me in detail by her to my exact memory of it? Is my family cursed or being stalked? I have much to find out about this series of strange phenomena.
