Rain
of Frogs
by Billy Wise
I live in north Alabama near Athens. When I was about seven or eight (around '64 or '65) I saw it rain frogs. My mom, sister and I were in the car headed for my grandmother's house. Just as we pulled into the yard, it started. My mom turned on the wipers and it just made a smeared mess on the windshield. There were frogs everywhere. My grandmother thought the end of the world was at hand.
These frogs were small, about one inch total and had a slightly brown, almost clear jelly look. You could see the heart beating and blood flow. They fell for about three or four minutes and stopped. The sky looked like any other storm as it approached, but quickly passed by. To my recollection, there were no tornadoes in the area. I don't remember any lightning, but I will always remember the mess made on the windshield.
