Visions of Jack
by Di

My story takes place over the last 25 years. When I was a teenager, I grew up in a small town. There was a boy named (I'll call him Jack) that I knew I always wanted to get acquainted with. When I turned 17, my mom enrolled me in a job program for low-income families. I was not interested in the job, as I was very shy and self-conscious. However, when I found out I'd be working with Jack, I gladly accepted! We worked together that summer and then became friends that next year in school. We never dated, but we were interested in each other. I graduated and he joined the Army. I never saw nor heard from him for seven years.

This is where the story gets freaky!

I am with my new husband at the local ice cream parlor. We are enjoying an ice cream treat, sitting in the car, watching traffic. I suddenly get a stomach ache and tell my husband, "I'm going to see Jack, and its going to be soon." Well, in about two minutes, there was Jack walking down the sidewalk right in front of us! I could hardly believe my eyes! We visited briefly, and then he was gone.

Now about 20 more years go by. We have totally lost touch with each other. I rarely think about him. Then I go on vacation with my sister and nieces. During the vacation, I am seeing Jack in my mind's eye all the time. I finally confide to my sister that this is happening, and it's sort of scaring me. Why would I be thinking about Jack? Suddenly, while packing for home, I say, "I have to go home and get prepared." I did not plan on saying it -- it just came out. I was very nervous.

When I get back home, the feeling is relentless; he is on my mind all the time. What does it mean?

Then, one night about six weeks later, I am bringing my son to football practice. I get the worst stomach ache ever. I tell my sister again, "I'm going to see Jack soon, and it's going to be right here." It was a really weird feeling. I don't think she quite believed me, but I knew it was true. Then exactly one week goes by, no stomach ache, surprisingly, I drop off my son again, and guess who I am parked behind? You guessed it. It was Jack standing right in front of me. After 20 years there he is! My 'vision was true and there is my old friend. I cannot explain how excited I was. We visited for a short time and I found out that his son plays football with my son! How's that for a small world? I haven't ever had this sort of "experience" with anyone else -- ever. I did not tell him about the stomach aches or visions. What sort of connection do Jack and I have?
