Premonitions of Friends
by Laura

I had a very large assignment due for my English Class. I had to write three fictional short stories about troubled teenagers, along with some other pieces. As is my unfortunate habit, I left the three stories to the last minute. What I wrote about was an anorexic girl named Liz, a girl from a broken home named Shannon, and a gothic/emo boy named Scott. I pulled these names and scenarios out of nowhere. I knew nobody by those names, nobody with those problems.

Later that week, my friend invited me to go to the beach with him and some of his friends. Naturally I agreed. When he came to pick me up, his friends were in the car. He introduced them to me as Liz, Shannon, and Scott!!

Scott wore all black and carried a guitar. Shannon was heavy and I later noticed some marks on her wrists. Liz was extremely skinny and dodged any questions about weight or food. We had a great time at the beach, but as I got to know them better and we became closer, they all confided in me their problems, which were indescribably similar to the stories bearing their names! I've never had the nerve to show them the stories I wrote, but these premonitions were the first of many and I'm both excited and scared by this talent.
