Disappearing CDs
by Agnes
I just read some tales on your website about disappearing object phenomena and would like to relate my experiences regarding same. By the way, I do live alone, so no one else could possibly have taken my missing items.
One Saturday morning in July, 1999, approximately 9:00 a.m., I turned on my stereo to listen to my favorite CDs. My CD set has a carousel to house 250 CDs, and I had 18 CDs arranged in order of my preference, (no. 1 being my favorite), etc. When I selected one of the CDs to play, nothing happened. I pressed the remote button again, still nothing happened. I opened the door to the CD player to see what the problem was. To my astonishment, there were NO CDs on the tray! I looked closer inside the tray - but alas, no CDs. All of them were gone!
I was horrified! Who would want my CDs? I called several friends to allay my astonishment. Needless to say, they were flabbergasted and could offer no explanation. I accepted the loss and started to replace my collection that very week.
Exactly one week later, I opened the carousel door to arrange the replacement CDs. To my astonishment, ALL of the CDs were back in the carousel, in the EXACT ORDER that I had previously arranged them.
Also, many articles of my clothing (from my closet) had disappeared. Some returned shortly thereafter, but many have still not returned to this day! One blouse did not disappear, but when I went to wear it, it was all slashed! I had never heard of this "disappearing object phenomena" before until reading about this on your website. Also, I find a number of items suddenly broken or damaged that were in perfect condition the last time I used them. Re: a wine glass that was not chipped when I washed it and put it on the shelf. The next evening when I went to use it, the rim was obviously chipped! I had to throw it out. Do any of you have any instances involving this phenomena?
