Haunted Flat
by PT

I was born in Africa in 1947 and lived there until September 2003 when I immigrated to England. It follows, therefore, my paranormal experiences in the main occurred in Africa, except the most recent, which I experienced over a period of time from about October 2003 to October 2005.

When I immigrated to England, my husband and I rented a very nice one-bedroom, ground floor flat on the Brighton Road, Horsham, West Sussex for a period of two years. Initially, I was unaware of any strange activity in the flat, but as time went on, during the evenings I became aware of a moving shadowed figure - and at times two figures - from the corner of my right on the wall to the right of me. At first I thought it was the flickering of the TV reflected on the wall. However, when I looked directly at the shadows, there was always nothing visible. At times whilst viewing TV at night, I observed a streak of light shoot across the sitting room, yet my husband never saw any of this, even though he was present. Several times when the shadowy figures were visible from the corner of my eye, I would alert my husband without looking at them, but he couldn't see anything.

One night at about 9.30 p.m., I'd been viewing TV, and during the ad break I popped into the bathroom to use the loo. The bathroom door was ajar and I didn't need to switch on the light in the passage or bathroom as the light from the lounge streaked through the passage and through the open bathroom door and onto the bath. I heard footsteps from the lounge advance to the passage after me. The person following me obscured the stream of light which spilt into the bathroom for a moment before moving into the bedroom. I assumed it was my husband as there was no one else living with us. Moments later, I looked in the bedroom, but my husband wasn't there. I was surprised as the person hadn't returned to the lounge, so I popped into the lounge and he was still sitting in his chair with his feet up, reading his book. He confirmed he hadn't moved at all.

Sometimes I was followed into the bedroom by this shadow, and at times there would be a marked change in the temperature from normal to very cold. Oddly, only I experienced this and only I was aware of the footsteps and observed the shadow following me.

Then one night, I'm not sure of the day or month in 2005, I woke up in the early hours of the morning for no apparent reason. My husband was sound asleep (the bedroom was not at all dark) and my eyes were drawn toward the open bedroom door, when quite suddenly I heard a pop sound (like a cork being popped from a bottle) and - lo and behold! - at the doorway was this very handsome young man, age approximately in his early 20s, dark hair, blue eyes, slim build and wearing a light blue, long-sleeved jumper.

I was so surprised and strangely not at all afraid. He was looking at me with the most beautiful smile and moved from the door toward me at the foot of the king size bed and lifted his right hand sort of apologetically and in greeting. I assumed he was apologizing for intruding on us in our bedroom. He continued across the room from the right at the foot of the bed to the left side and walked straight through the wall and part of the closed window and disappeared.

I was really taken aback, though not afraid and didn't know what to make of it. I lay awake for a couple of hours thereafter, wondering whether he needed to reveal himself, knowing I was aware of some presence in the flat. We have since moved into a newly built block of flats in a nearby little village and am pleased to say have not experienced anything of that nature for two years now.
