Give It Back!
by Cheri

I have never been a big believer in paranormal activity, but have always thought it possible. Good friends of ours have been haunted twice in two old homes and have sold them in response. We currently and have been in living in a house that was built around 1887 for almost ten years. Since the day we moved in, my daughter is convinced it is haunted. She's always been intrigued by the paranormal and it has been my thought that she just likes to think it has to be since it is so old. There have been a couple of occasions when she claims she has gotten injured because of something creepy she was looking at or that she thinks she saw something, but I've always blown it off as it's just her imagination. I've personally never encountered anything. Until last week...

Back in early April, I thought I lost a file folder. It contained orders for product that I needed to place once a week on Friday mornings for my employer from my home because I have a fax machine. I would write the order and fax it to the company, then put the original in the red folder and leave it on the dining room table corner so I would take it back into the office on the next trip. It is always where it is kept. Always.

The time comes when I need to go into work and go to take the file folder with me... and it is gone. I ask my husband if he has moved it. No. I ask my daughter if she moved it. No. I search high and low. Tear the house apart and both of the cars. No folder. On top of it all, it is red and not hard to miss. I go into work thinking maybe I already brought it in. No. I search for this folder for three weeks and finally give up and start a new one.

A couple of weeks after the folder disappeared, I was sitting at the same dining room table making jewelry on a weekend. I have a set of matching jewelry tools. They all have black handles with a yellow stripe. I took one out of my jewelry toolbox that was a needle nose pliers and used it all weekend. On Monday morning, I stood at the table admiring the bracelets I had made over the weekend and noticed something that needed to be fixed. I reached for the pliers and they were gone. I asked my husband if he had taken them to use on something and he said no. I asked my daughter if she had borrowed them and she said no. Had I lost my mind? Again, I tore the house apart looking in every possible place I could have put them to no avail. Even weeks later my husband kept bringing me various pliers he had found laying around the house asking me if those were the ones I lost, but no. Again, I gave up. I really thought I was getting senile and misplacing things and not remembering where or why.

Last Wednesday morning, I awoke between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to take a drink of water from the bottle next to my bed. We have three cats and two of them always sleep with me. When we wake up in the morning, they automatically run downstairs because they think they're going to get fed whether we actually get out of bed or not. The black cat jumped off the bed and ran downstairs and I laid back down and went back to sleep. Five to ten minutes later, I heard the most horrific sound emanating from the downstairs. I jumped out of bed and raced down the steps behind our labrador. We got to the back of the house and found the black cat up on a counter with ears flat, back arched and yelling a sound over and over again I've never heard come out of him in his life. Not the typical cat yowl either. The other two cats were in another room all puffed up. The dog was freaked because this cat that usually adores her would not let her come near. One of the other cats is extremely close to the black cat and they have loved each other since the day they met. The black cat screamed every time she came into the room now to see what was wrong. There was even some blood drawn from the black cat and we don't know how it happened or who did it or where it was injured. Suddenly, these two lovers could not stand the sight of each other.

I went to work about three hours later and was telling my boss the story of the cats when she said "he saw a ghost." I kinda laughed and said, "Well, we do live in an old house.". She started to tell me stories of Ouija boards and her own daughter losing things and then finding them again where she had already looked and I told her about my two objects I had recently lost. She said her daughter used to stand in the room and say, "Give it back! Give it back!" and within a day or two the objects would show up. She said I should go home and try that. I chuckled.

I left work and stopped at the store to buy some groceries. I arrived home and was carrying in the bags when I remembered what my boss had told me about asking whatever was in my home to give things back. As I was walking through the back door and entering the dining room, I laughed to myself and thought, what the heck, and I said, "if there are any spirits living in this house, please give me back the..." and just as I tuned the corner and looked at the dining room table where both objects went missing... there they were! Exactly where I had left them 6-8 weeks before.

I'm pretty sure I felt the blood drain from my face. I went over and picked them up to make sure they were the same folder and pliers. They were. I had no words. I had to leave the house and call my husband and my daughter and make sure they weren't messing with me. They were as confused as I. We tried to think of any logical way this could have happened and came up blank. Totally, totally speechless and perplexed. My mind goes numb even thinking about it now. I can't even type anymore more right now because it can't be expounded on further. Thanks for reading. Please comment on any thoughts you may have as to what it could be or any similar stories.
