The Watchful Ghost
When I was 13 (30 years ago), my family of 10 moved into an old two-story farmhouse in the country. The nearest town, Michael, Ilinois was four miles away with a population of 100. I shared a large upstairs bedroom with my three sisters. Two sisters slept in one double bed and I slept with a sister in another double bed across the room.
The first night, I awoke when a sister across the room started to scream. I sat up in bed and saw a figure of a woman bending over the sister, across the room, who was still sleeping. The sister, who shared my bed, also saw the woman. All three of us saw the ghost. We could see through her; however, you could see she wore an old-fashioned dress and shawl.
The sister who slept through the entire experience didn't believe us. But seeing the ghost was to be a regular experience for us. Almost every night during the two years we lived there, we would see the ghost. Sometimes she would be bending over one of us. Other times we would see her sitting in a ghostly rocking chair in the middle of our bedroom rocking. After the first night, we were never scared of her. My sisters and I still talk about how protected and loved we felt in the ghost's presence.
