Bathroom Shadow Creature
by Xiao-Lu L.

A little over 30 years ago, my husband I purchased an old house in uptown New Orleans. The home had two bathrooms. The bathroom closest to the master bedroom had no shower, only a tub. When I would wash my hair, I had to lean over in the bathtub to rinse my hair under the faucet. I began to notice that often when I was doing that or when I was reading in the tub, a shadow would appear to fall between me and the light fixture, as if someone had entered the room and temporarily blocked the light. Many times I would turn around to see if my husband had entered the room and inevitably there would be no one there. The sensation of someone in the bathroom with me would grow, although there were no other physical manifestations other than the brief shadow falling across the pages of my book or seen out of the corner of my eye.

Finally, I became so uncomfortable that I began to use the other bathroom in the house when I was alone, even though it was further away. My husband eventually noticed this pattern of behavior and questioned me. I then told him what I had sensed. He didn't say much at the time. About two years later as we were moving out of that house after being transferred to another city, he told me that the realtor had told him that the former owner of the house had died in the bathroom where I felt so uncomfortable. He had evidently tried to reach his wife by crawling across the floor, but he didn't make and she did not find him until she awoke the next morning. My husband said he felt it was cheaper not to tell me anything until we moved out of the house, rather than buying a new house
