Angels to the Rescue
by Debbie P.

I have had two angel encounters:

After moving to a three-story apartment, my husband and I were talking about what we would do if there were ever to be a fire in our apartment complex. The one idea occurred to us to buy roped ladders to escape out the windows. A week after that, a renters insurance salesman came to our door and we had decided to purchase the insurance for fire with our next month's income. A few days later, I was home alone one afternoon with my two sons, aged three years and nine months. I had just laid them down for a nap and decided to take one also with my nine month old on the couch, while my other son laid in my bed. I was almost asleep when I heard my three year old scream. I looked over at him and saw a ring of bright red flames dancing around him. I instinctively got up and walked over to him and picked him up, then took him over to the couch. I looked behind me and saw the fire still in a ring beside the bathroom door. I walked into the bathroom and grabbed the bottle holding the toilet brush and got water to douse the fire. I kept saying over and over the entire time, "Oh God help me." I turned toward my bedroom doorway and saw an amazing sight: the entire bed was aflame with red glowing fire and I could see the bed actually burning a whole in the middle, then turning into the room I saw clothes falling off hangers in the red flames. The odd thing was, there was no smoke at all. The fire quickly jumped to the wood arches on the ceiling toward the kitchen. I grabbed up my two sons and ran out the door towards the stairs, closing the door behind me. As I got to the second floor the smoke was pouring into the area, I pulled the alarms and hollered "Fire!" as I descended the stairwell. When I got outside, my aunt, who lived in the complex next to mine, came running over to help with the kids. She looked down at my feet and gasped. I looked down and saw they were black up to my calves. I had no shoes or socks on, and I had actually walked through the fire in the hallway several times without noticing. I miraculously had no injuries at all; my three year old suffered a tiny blister on his big toe. The fire had been started with a lighter, that my son had been playing with.

On one very cold winter day, I ventured out to go to work. I worked in a nearby city as a nurses' assistant in a nursing home. I had wanted to call off but, so many others were unable to make it in. I had to travel a major freeway in order to get to work, the road was a sheet of ice. Thick from layers of snow and sleet that had melted and froze over night. I saw only one other car as I traveled the highway, and a semi truck. I had about two more miles to go before reaching the turn off and there was a bridge that came just before it. I saw the semi swerve in front of me as it traveled through the bridge, I tried to slow down to let the truck cross first, but the car began to fishtail wildly. A calm came over me and I let go of the steering wheel, the wheel turned back and forth as if someone was trying to steer it straight. I covered my eyes with my hands, and said, " Jesus, Jesus, Jesus..." After what seemed forever, I felt a slow turn in the car then it stopped softly and the engine died. I took my hands off my eyes and saw the front of the car was in a snow bank in a shallow gutter. I turned to look at the bridge, I was actually on the other side near the turn off. I know an angel had to have been with me that day, the bridge had a sharp drop off and only half of it was covered by a guard rail.
