Mom is Still Thirsty
by Kathy M.

My mother passed away in 1982. During her lifetime, she had a habit of getting up during the night and getting a drink downstairs. Several months after she died, I had just gotten into bed (my room is at the top of the stairs) when I saw a shadowy figure stop at my doorway for a few seconds, then proceed down the stairs. I then heard the refrigerator open, ice cubes drop into a glass and liquid pour. A few minutes later, the figure came up the stairs, once again paused at my door, as if looking in, and then turned to corner going down the hallway. At first, I thought it was my sister, with whom I was sharing the house, but I soon realized that there was no sound of footsteps or any other noise associated with a person moving about. Also, my sister is afraid of the dark, so I couldn't imagine that she would have gotten up and gone downstairs without turning on a light. Immediately after the figure passed my room, I called to my sister - who answered me from her room at the end of the hall. I asked her if she had just gone downstairs, to which she replied, "No. Why?" Needless to say, I slept with the light on that night, and have since moved my bed so that it is not facing the doorway!
