Call from the ER

I was reading through some of the past articles you had featured in the weekly, and came across the article about weird phone calls, and wanted to add one of my experiences.

A number of years ago, in the early afternoon on a Tuesday, my wife and I were doing the usual chores around our house when the phone rang. My wife picked up the receiver and said hello. It was my cousin from West Virginia, and he asked how my wife was, and how I was, and it was nice to talk to her, then the phone went back to a dial tone, and she placed the receiver back on the phone. When I came in, she told me Ed had called and asked how we were, then he hung up. I thought that was strange, so I attempted to call him, with no success. I attempted to contact him throughout the following week; I was not able to get in touch with anyone. 

That next week, I received a call from my father, and he had told me Ed had a serious heart attack and was in the hospital. I again attempted to make contact and did get in touch with his wife, and I inquired into the well being of my cousin, and she said Ed had a serious heart attack and had damage to two-thirds of his heart. He was slated to be sent to another hospital which was specialized in the treatment of heart patients with extensive heart damage. I sent my condolences to her, and asked her to relay my best wishes to Ed. It was at that time I told her about Ed's call the previous week, and told her something had happened and we had lost the connection, and had attempted to call back. She asked me when he had called, and I told her last Tuesday in the early afternoon, about 12:30 or 1:00 p.m. She said that wasn't possible and asked if was I sure of the day and time. I told her I was positive. She said that Ed was in the ER at that time, and had went into cardiac arrest, and they had worked on him for a while before they had restored his cardiac rhythm, due to the extensive damage. To this day, when I tell Ed about this, he says he never called my wife that day - at least not from this life!
