Ghost Cats
by Eddie Stair

This story can be substantiated by my wife and daughter. We have become used to what we refer to as a "ghost cats" in our home. We have two stray cats that have taken up residency with us and who live outside. They have nice cat houses and are well fed and loved. We also have four inside cats that we love dearly and we have lost several cats through illness and we still miss them very much. We also have two dogs. What prompted me to write this story was a clear series of meows which seemed to be coming from one of our back bedrooms just a few minutes ago. I went to see which cat it was and found two cats sound asleep in two different bedrooms and the other two asleep in the front of the house in the den and living room. I smiled and said out loud, "Ghost cat."

We have had many experiences of cats meowing and all of the family members have heard it and went to see if something was the matter with our current family member cats only to find them somewhere else in the house or sound asleep. One of the strangest things that has happened was several weeks ago when my daughter was in her room alone with the door shut. I was reading in my bedroom just across the hall with my door open. I heard and my daughter heard very distinctly, the door to her room being scratched at. The same thing she hears from her special cat that stays with her most of the time. She got up without looking and opened the door to let her cat in. Nothing was there. She stared over at me and began to smile as she noticed that her cat had been in her room all along sound asleep. She said the usual, "Ghost cat!"
