Inhuman
Bunkmate
by Tommy
Okay, I don't really know where this really strange experience should be sent to, or even if it's paranormal, exactly. But it was extremely unsettling and incredibly bizarre, like a dream (although I KNOW I wasn't dreaming!).
I was staying at this hostel in downtown Toronto, Ontario, just for a few days before my new job started the next week. I had just come in from out of town from Ottawa, Ontario, and needed a roof over my head for a few nights to get my affairs together. I was sleeping in a room full of beds, with a couple of bunkbeds and several regular beds lined side by side with each other on the floor. I had just got in that night from the bus at around 12:30 at night, and was INCREDIBLY exhausted, but still alert and mobile. Thankfully, they had a bed left on the floor (not a bunkbed), and I got that one to sleep on.
When they called that the lights were going out, there was no one in the bed on my left (which surprised me, since I heard these places are usually packed). The room was dark, except for the moonlight coming through my window. Although I couldn't see everything as "clear as day," I could definitely make out details in the dark, once my eyes got adjusted to the darkness. But I was tired, so, off to la-la land I went for I guess around an hour.
I don't fall asleep that easily even when I'm really tired. I usually close my eyes, and left Mr. Sandman come when he's ready to. But as usual tonight (maybe from the bumpy and long trip), I was still unable to sleep, just keep my eyes closed. About an hour after lying there, I heard someone lie down in the bed next to mine -- which I thought was weird, since I didn't hear the door open, and it's pretty loud when it does. Anyways, I figured, I must've blanked out for a second and missed him.
So I opened my eyes, and sure enough, there was a dude lying there. When I first opened my eyes, I almost wearily just closed them back -- but instead, they just shot wide open. What I saw made the hair on the back rise up, made my heart race and burned an image into my mind forever. The body underneath the covers was so slight it made me wonder if it wasn't a 9-year-old kid under there ... until I saw his face, which was over the blanket, staring at me.
The best words I can used to describe his head are "grotesquely exaggerated" -- meaning, everything in this man's face was like a funhouse mirror. With just the moonlight giving a small bit of light through the curtain's cloth, I saw his eyes were about two or three times as large as a normal person's. He had a smaller than usual nose .. but his MOUTH seemed to take up more than 1/3rd of his round head! And he was just staring at me lying down, grinning, with his teeth slightly apart. When I moved, he moved; I gasped at one point, and his mouth turned into the same shocked expression for a sec (kind of like a round "oh!" shape of the mouth), before smiling again. He made kind of like a breathing noise, eyes so wide, I don't know how) ... eventually, I closed my eyes from him, thinking, sheesh, weirdos in the big city.
But this 'man' was no street person ... I'm not even sure if it WAS even a person! The next morning, convinced I must have been dreaming, I slowly opened my eyes to the sunlight. He was gone, and I sighed relief ... until I got up and looked at the bed, and saw an inprint in it. I asked anyone if they had seen anybody in that bed during the night. They said no, but for some reason, a few guys said they had a weird feeling that someone was right over their face breathing on them during the night, and when they suddenly woke up, there was no one there ...
