Friend's Wraith
by David Hogue
I don't remember exactly when this happened, but it was a little under a year ago, I think. What happened was: I had just woken up from sleeping in the middle of the night. I sat up for some reason. I was a bit disoriented and rubbed my eyes a little. For a minute I just sat there and stared ahead, then I looked over to my right.
In the chair in front of my TV was one of my friends. He was sort of blue and transparent. He was just sitting there, watching me. I just looked at him, I was still half asleep, but I've never imagined something like this, even when I went two or three days without sleep. Suddenly, he brought his hands up. He was holding a basketball. The ball was also blue and transparent. He looked at me as if to say, "I'm going to throw it to you." So I brought my own hands up. He tossed the ball to me. I missed it and it went behind my curtain and blinds. My curtain was drawn and the blinds were down, so I moved them out of the way and started looking for the ball. I did that for about a minute and couldn't understand why I couldn't find it. Then I realized exactly what I was doing and stopped. I looked back over where my friend was and he was gone.
I know what you're thinking: if that really happened, then my friend must have been dead or dying, and I saw his spirit or something. But my friend was fine. He wasn't dead, is not dead and wasn't sick or anything at the time. The fact that I had just woken up from sleep and was probably drowsy and not thinking clearly and probably imagined it is what you're also probably thinking. It's possible, I guess, but that's the one and only time I've ever "imagined" something THAT vivid before. Not even my most lucid dreams have been that clear.
I don't know what it was, or why it was him because, like I said, he wasn't dead or dying, and that would've made a LOT more sense, but it was and I still don't know why I saw that, what it meant or what it was exactly.
