Another Top Hat Spectre

I was merely perusing the site when I came across the story of the "Top Hat Spectre." I was astounded. I had no idea this experience was a common one. My experience with the man is similar, but takes place in a small southern Illinois town. The year was 1982-83 and I was four or five. The encounter is still very vivid to me.
I was awake, restless when I felt as if someone was watching. I looked over at the side of the bed facing the doorway, and there he was. I was frozen. It appeared to me like I was being viewed in a funerary service. He stood still, featureless, with the top hat resting on his chest. I noticed he had a lacy undershirt, for I could see the cuffs of his sleeves draped around his wrists. I stared for what seemed to be forever, drinking him in. With cautionary slowness, I turned over and waited for perhaps 30 seconds. I turned to look for him again and he had vanished. As I had time to think about the encounter, I remembered another detail. I could faintly see through him. The entire time he stood above me, the felt stickers on my closet door behind him remained visible.
