Ghost's Picture
by Tony

My story goes back to 1984 when I had just got married and moved into our first home in Hereford, England. A few months later, around November, I was woken by my alarm clock at 4.30 a.m, the time I needed to get up for work. Not wishing to wake my wife, I quickly turned it off. I sat up in bed and turned on my bedside lamp, and I just sat there with my eyes closed for a few minutes.

On opening my eyes, I was astonished to find an old woman staring back at me from the foot of the bed. For what seemed like minutes, although may only have been seconds, we just stared at each other across the bed. Then without warning, the transparent figure turned to its left and glided out through the bedroom wall onto the streets outside.

As you can imagine, I was speechless, and I can still remember the old lady as if it were yesterday. She wore clothes which I can only describe as being from the war years. She had her gray hair tied up tightly into a bun at the top of her head, and a dowdy colored dress with a pattern of large flowers which fell to bellow knee length. She also wore a pinnie around her waist, patterned again with flowers and with a white trim.

To cut a long story short, a few months later, while exploring a dilapidated building in the garden, which I had not realized was there due to the area being grossly overgrown, I quite by accident trod on a glass picture frame. Bending down to see what it was, I realized that the lady in the picture was the one I had met those few months earlier in my bedroom.
