The Tall Black Thing
by Natalie W.

When I was a child, we lived in a three-bedroom house and I was an only child we had a lot of incidents that I can only explain as hauntings. The first one I recall is my bed always used to shake - lightly, yet noticeable. The lights would always go out and doorknobs would lock.

One experience occurred when I was little. I used to play a game that I called "puppet" and would sneak off in the bathroom and play. I used tie a rag and pretend it was puppet hair and play when I was supposed to be doing my homework. This particular time I was doing math, and I hated math homework, so I snuck off to play. Do you know that feeling you get in the back of your neck when someone is staring at you? That is exactly what I felt, and I looked up to see the bathroom door cracked and noticed a tall, dark shadow. I thought it was my mother spying on me, so I threw the rag down and pretended to be using the toilet. I looked up and saw the dark figure still looking. I spoke up and said, "Mom, you're scaring me!" Still, the scary shadow kept staring. So I walked right up to it, looking for a figure - and what I saw was not my mother. The shadow was pitch black; I couldn't see a face. All I saw was an outline reaching 5-6 ft. tall. The hair (or what it was on the top) was giant coiled spring-looking things, sort of like giant curly dreadlocks. They also had single strand with little balls, like lice on hair. I was kinda mesmerized in shock until I saw the hair move because of movement and I realized I was face to face with some type of demon, so naturally I started screaming.

The door locked shut from the outside. While I'm screaming, I noticed the air was getting short or heavy and finally the door opened. Our family dog, a Doberman Pincher named "Lisa," was right outside the door, barking out of control at the bathroom. But I couldn't see anything, yet it felt like something was there, in front of my face, invisible. Lisa turned around and followed the "thing" into a closet in the hallway where we used to keep our vacuum cleaner. She never stopped barking the whole time. By that time I felt safe and opened the closet door and there was nothing there, or at least anything I could see. I started crying hysterically and went looking for my mother who was standing outside talking with the gardener the whole time.
