Ghost
Light in the Gravestone
by tschmidt
I've been researching the paranormal for approximately six years. There is a story about a cemetery near our rural home that never seemed to fade. Many people driving past this small country cemetery would report seeing unexplainable lights glowing from one of the tombstones.
A small group of investigators from Ohio's "Ghostlights Paranormal Research and Investigations" decided to check the accountability of these stories. Armed with cameras, EMF meters (devices that measure the electromagnetic field known to be created by ghosts), and flashlights, we walked quietly into the graveyard and began taking pictures. Approximately 10 minutes later, a member of the group started yelling wildly, "Look at the light!" and pointing excitedly toward the edge of the cemetery. Nearly 60 feet away was a white glow surrounding a gravestone. Thinking that it might be a light placed there by loved ones, I remained skeptical. There were five of us in the group that evening, and I suggested that we move closer to the illuminating stone and take pictures as we closed in. As we approached, chills consumed me. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. The light appeared to be coming from within the tombstone, as if there was an inner source for its light. The color of the light wasn't typical either. It wasn't bright, but not yet dull. It wasn't white, but not yellow. All I can say by using the English language was, it was very strange indeed.
We formed a circle around the stone, continuing to take photos. We each had a different type of camera, and different brands of film and film speed. None of us were talking; it didn't seem appropriate. We all knew we were experiencing what could only be termed as a paranormal event. As we tightened our circle around the still-glowing stone, we came to within approximately four feet of it. It was then that the light simply went out. It was as if the light was just sucked back inside the tombstone. At that point, one of the members screamed and began running back to the vehicle. It was as if reality hit us upside the head, and we all began running, jumping over stones as we went. (Not real professional, I know.)
The other oddity was that as we went our separate ways that week to get our photos developed, not one photo came out that was taken of that stone, even though we went to different developers and had different film. I am a true believer that ghost lights are not just a figment of the imagination. At least not in this case.
