The Spectral Visitor
by Godblesstx

My sister and her husband had been married about two years and had just had their first baby. Like many young couples they were finding it hard to get ends to meet and were living with his parents for a short time. Also in the home with them was their grandmother, who was dying of cancer. They had turned the living room into a sleeping quarter for her, where she was staying, having maybe only a couple of more months to live. One night (around two in the morning) the baby woke up and was crying. Not in the mood to breast feed her, my sister decided to go downstairs into the kitchen to get some milk for the baby. She walked down the long hallway to the stairs. The stairway led down to the living room where grandmother was sleeping. As my sister approached the end of the stairway, she could look into the living room where grandma was. As she did so she noticed a well dressed, mature gentleman sitting on the edge of her bed. His thoughts were interrupted as she approached the landing and he turned and smiled at her. Startled by the stranger my sister got frightened and ran back upstairs, jumped back in bed and hid under the covers (with the baby). The next day at breakfast she told her story to anyone who would listen and asked who the stranger was. No one knew and everyone insisted that only my sister, her husband, the baby and in-laws were the only people in the house. Later in the day, someone took out a photo album and asked my sister to go through it to see if she could identify anyone in it. It wasn't too long before she found the person. It was grandmother's husband. The gentleman had died over 25 years before.
