New Orleans Ghost
by C.M.

My spouse and I recently visited a bed and breakfast in New Orleans, a very old and beautiful place. On the second night, I had experienced several different encounters with something and I'm not sure if I should have believed my own eyes as well as my ears.

It all started around 4:00 a.m. that Sunday morning. I was sleeping next to my spouse and I suddenly awoke and looked up above my bed and the lamp from across the room was casting a glow. There I saw a shadow of a man with bushy hair. The only thing I can say why a person would not run and scream is that you try to rationalize what you are seeing. Since we were up on a second floor, I'm thinking there is no one looking in, so go back to sleep. My spouse was sleeping next to me, so it had to have been my imagination.

I drifted off back to sleep, and not too soon later I was sleeping on my belly and I felt the bed shaking very gently at first, like someone was trying to wake me up. I started moving and then it stopped suddenly. I'm thinking this is a old house and a trolley car passes in front, so I lay there for a short time waiting for a trolley to go by. It did and the bed didn't move, so I'm thinking, ok, maybe this was my imagination. Again, I drifted off to sleep.

A short time later, the bed stared shaking again. This time I woke my spouse and asked, "Did you feel the bed shaking?" He's a snorer and sleeps hard. He said no, so I drifted back to sleep. Then I can only explain the next events as very frightening. I sleep on my stomach with my head turned to one side I heard a whisper from a man, which I thought was my husband rolling over to tell me. The voice said,
"I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU." I looked over to my husband, who was sleeping on his side, so I'm thinking, gosh you are so silly; go back to sleep. Then there was a a experience I can only explain as if someone screamed in your ear. I woke up with a searing pain in my ear and my teeth actually was chattering from the pain. Needless to say, I woke my spouse up, crying in fear. This was very real to me and my spouse says he believes it was real for me, but doesn't seem to understand the trauma this has caused me. I see things very different now.
