Cheeky Poltergeist
by Vanessa V.

While I was ill last year, my house became the center of strange disturbances. The disturbances started with the usual occurrence of electrical items having a mind of their own: the computer would turn itself on and off on its own accord and the stereo speakers would crackle without there being any source of power to the unit. Both my sister and I were witness to these things on a regular basis. We both agreed that it was not scarring us and to sign another lease on the house.

In the next few weeks, while I was sleeping in my bedroom, I was awakened by a strange mumbling noise, like someone had something to say but just couldn't get the right words out. Being quite afraid, I was hesitant to open my eyes, but eventually the curiosity got the better of me, and upon opening my eyes I discovered two tall black figures standing either side of my bed. I squeezed my eyes shut and didn't open them again until daybreak.

About a week later, my sister asked me if I would look at a picture in her room. I went in and couldn't find it, so I went to poke my head around the door to ask my sister where it was. As I did this, I was pushed forcefully out of the room and upon turning around there was nothing there. Over the next couple of weeks there were numerous occurrences such as this. The amusing part was that when it happened to a man, it was always a cheeky slap on the bum.

Many sensitive people who entered the house were getting negative feelings and hearing creaking floorboards and things such as this. The last occurrence was late one night when my sister and I were going to bed (living in adjoining bedrooms) we both said goodnight and shut our doors and heard a loud bang on the wall. We were both quick to blame each other, but claimed not to be near the wall from where the noise came. It happened about four times. When the wall banging stopped, we were tired of the games and finally said goodnight for the last time and walked into our rooms. As I shut the door, I heard my sister scream, and as I ran into her room she was pale and shaking. She claimed to have seen a figure of a woman standing in the corner of the room from where the banging came and quickly she disappeared. This was enough to convince us that we weren't suffering from overactive imaginations.

Neither of us slept a wink that night, and the following day we went to the local spiritualist shop and got all the information we needed and invested in a bagua mirror. It seems that living at the end of a T intersection was enough to invite spirits into your home. We put the mirror on the veranda but the occurrences didn't stop there. Similar things were happening everyday. Voices in the kitchen, noisy floorboards and electrical goods with a mind of their own. Eventually we moved the mirror to a more obvious place (facing the T intersection) and the occurrences stopped. Although both my sister and myself experienced this we both still have a fascination with the paranormal and are waiting for another occurrence to happen. We have now become addicted to the unknown.
