Ghosts Everywhere
by Princess H.

All my life I have been sensitive to ghostly activity. I am beginning to feel they are drawn to me for some reason. The first experience I can remember was when I was about five. We lived in an old house that dated back to the Civil War times. It was one of those old stone places. Usually I'd be the first to wake up on Saturday mornings, so I'd just go and sit in the living room and watch cartoons. I'd be sitting there and out of the corner of my eye I'd see just an outline of a person, only a pink outline. And there were more then just one. I'd see them everywhere. At one point I even saw one on the toilet!

Years later, I found I wasn't the only one to experience this stuff. My mom told me that at night the shade to the lamp on her night table would start shaking, and only the shade. After it went on for a few nights, she threw it away. Also, I'd be prone to hear loud thumps and voices when there were no explanations.

The next time I can truly say I have evidence of activity was when I was nine years old. We lived in another old house, but when we moved in, there was what seemed like bits of blood in certain parts of the house. I haven't asked my mother about what happened because I honestly don't want to know the answer. I also knew someone whose uncle lived in the house who said he had weird things happen there. First were the strange scratches on the walls near the basement door and the strange feeling I always had down there. One night, my friend spent the night and woke me up scared. She said she had seen a man in my room. Well, being tired and cranky I just yelled at her and went back to bed. But there were always weird thing that happened in my room. Like the night I tried to close my window and my finger somehow got wedged in-between the panes. I cried for what seemed like hours before my mom came down. That house was creepy.

My mom's boyfriend had died a few weeks before we moved out, and after that the crap started hitting the fan. Our white German Shepard would stare into the bathroom for hours as if watching her dead boyfriend. My mom would be vacuuming and shed swears she saw a flash of black fly past her. But the worst experience I ever had I was the day before we moved. My mother was in the shower and her ex-boyfriend, who was there to help us move, was asleep upstairs. I was on the couch watching TV when I heard the door to my old bedroom (which I had moved out of long before) start banging. I went and looked and there it was - my door was moving back and forth in the door jam, just back and forth. Well that was freaky as hell, so I ran upstairs and got Steve. He came down and when he opened the still moving door he swears to this day he felt a flash of cold go through him. But when we looked all the windows were closed and locked, so there was no explanation for it.

Well now I am 17 and I live in one of the oldest homes in our small town. My ex-boyfriend, who swears he's psychic, says there are about 10 ghosts in my house. I don't really know if I believe him, but I know of one for sure. She is a little girl I fondly call Ashely.

It all started one night when I was watching a movie with my ex. I got up to go to the bathroom and I looked into my playroom. All the windows were steamed up because of our dryer, and there in the corner of a window was a small handprint, too small to be mine or my ex's. Let's say I was freaked.

Another night, I was talking to him about it and for some reason I closed my eyes and saw something. It was this little girl with dark hair and dark eyes running through my playroom doorway and the name Ashley popped into my head. I asked him about it and he said the exact stuff I said before I even told him my story. It's strange to think of living in this house now that I know it is haunted. For years I have been scared to walk down the dark hallway at night for fear something would reach out and grab me, like a nightmare I had one night where I was walking up the hallway and I went to go turn on the hallway light when a skeletal hand reached out and grabbed me. I woke up fast in a cold sweat and I know something caused that dream.

My room is the coldest room in the house. And no matter how many times they fix the heat, it is still freezing. Then there's the mysterious fog in the picture of my two cats on the stairway along with the glowing red eyes and the seemingly figure of a man at the door. That's not the first time I have seen strange things at the bottom of my stair. I remember walking out of my laundry room one day and felt drawn to look down the stairs where I saw the body of a man, but only from the waist down. That alone would freak anyone out along with the sounds that come from my attic above my head some nights. I am sure this house is built over a few graves, like those of Ashely and the mysterious man, but I have no way to prove it.
