The Squealing Poltergeist
by Annie

I believe there is a poltergeist in my house. For instance, we will be sitting around and watching TV, and then something will fall out of a bookcase across the room - like a book that was neatly wedged between two books before, or a little ceramic bowl filled with keys or pennies or something. It has happened many times. Upstairs, when I'm alone I can feel the presence of something watching me, clipping at my heels. I have to run back downstairs in order to feel safe. And in the upstairs bathroom, when I'm taking a shower or whatever, the light will start flickering and it will cut itself off, and if I go downstairs and then come back up again a few minutes later, it will be working again.

The upstairs seems to be where it stays, because I can hear the stairs creaking all the time, even when no one's in the house. The French doors leading to the balcony will open by themselves and bang shut very loudly. Windows will be open, closet doors will be shut when they weren't before, and things will be in different spots then they were when you left. But something happened a few weeks ago that scared me. I was alone upstairs, too tired to be thinking about "George," as I nicknamed him. I heard the stairs creaking, but I figured it was just the cat. I was about to fall asleep when I heard something whisper my name directly into my ear. I shouted "What?!" sort of mad that someone would try to wake me up, and realized that nothing was there.

Another time, I was doing my homework, and I started hearing this "tap tap tap tap tap" noise that was sort of loud and seemed to be coming from the corner of my room, in the walls. It went on for five to 10 minutes and then stopped. About four years ago, I would hear high-pitched squeals, sort of like a cross between a squeak and a squeal, and it was sort of loud. It happened once or twice a month and then stopped. I think I remember the first time I felt the ghost, or felt when he/she entered my house. It was about seven years ago on Halloween, and I was coming home and was brushing my teeth, when this feeling of dread filled my head. That's when things started to happen.
