The Third
Bridge
by OldNDrgn
I've had several experiences with strange phenomena since I was young. One event still brings a chill to my bones and I've noticed has become well known among teens in the area. It is known as The Third Bridge, reason being is there is a road that leads out east from here out into flat grassland for maybe a couple hundred miles outside of civilization. Three creeks run across the road and are bridged over. Starting at the first is where the phenomenon begins. The third is commonly where it ends, but not always.
One afternoon, when I was still in high school, a couple of friends and I were hanging out and bored out of our minds. Of course, we all had a belief in things unexplainable and such. Earlier that week, I had heard from someone at my school about a ghost hotspot that I wanted to check out. He had given me the directions, so I decided that night to suggest going out searching for it. We all three agreed to do so - a location within the city near an old children's park. We searched for well over a couple hours and never found it, so I decided to just drive around.
Suddenly we were lost. We had no clue where we happened to end up in our search. That road we ended up and was heading due east. Thinking, cool, it's dark enough to see stars clearly, we decided to keep driving. I stated, "I want to see some ghost lights or the Red Rocket." My other friend stated he wanted to see a UFO. I was sitting shotgun in car, and at that exact moment something happened. A white, glowing object, almost looking of a stingray shape, but more bulky around the midsection and roughly four feet in length, came flying from the left side in front of windshield, approaching closer toward my face very quickly and out of nowhere. Just before I thought it would come through windshield, it swooped up over the side and was gone.
Whatever we saw made us all scream bloody hell. The driver's hands and legs balled up. As the car was still driving at a speed of 45-55 miles an hour, another friend in back dove onto floor of car. I balled up, arms in front of face and legs pulled up to chest. That happened within a few seconds. Our screams seemed to last an eternity and no control of the car was reclaimed until that ended, from which point the gas was punched and pinned to car's limits. Our friend in backseat was watching out the window, literally white as a ghost yelling, "It's following! It's getting closer!"
We noticed a small bridge, hardly noticeable except for railings covered in brush. As we crossed, the thing suddenly stopped and disappeared. We drove until the road suddenly was left unpaved and then decided we had to turn around, lest be driving for god knows how long down this one road. All of us had adrenaline pumping through our veins and could not stop breathing so hard that it began fogging up the windows. We rolled down the windows a crack, turned the car and began heading back.
The turn-around was quick, but seemed like an eternity. We drove on, coming back to that bridge and crossing it. That's when suddenly the driver caught a flash of light out in field. He saw some dark (seemingly) robed figure standing maybe 20 paces out, which caused him to punch the gas a bit more, but he remained as cool as possible. Then the person in back seat stated that he saw a round circle of light out in the field, then several more. I then located and saw for myself. This time, the friend in back saw a dark figure out in field, standing and watching.
I had the worst feeling in the world. I saw one of the dark figures, this one laid out on the side of the road, as if he was injured. The driver began to slow down and suggested stopping to see if someone was hurt, but I Immediately and very sternly and loudly shouted, "KEEP DRIVING!" My heart was in my throat and my legs were numbed senseless (which has always been a bad feeling that something is to happen for me). That was enough to make him hit the gas once again and we began bailing.
I happened to glance at the clock at that moment. It was roughly midnight (give or take a couple minutes). We counted three bridges from the turn-around on the way back, and as we crossed the last one we saw a lightshow all over the fields behind us. It almost looked as if a hundred people were spread out holding flashlights a few feet above and facing the ground flipping them on and off randomly everywhere (three-foot circle lights). We left that behind and exited the road the way we came in.
We were very quiet the whole drive back. As we were getting back into civilization, I saw a small two- or three-inch spherical light bounce across the road, like the reflector of a bike, but bright and apparently round. Nothing was there to explain what that was, but it gave me a sudden and reassuringly comfortable feeling. I began to relax and recount what took place. We discussed it many many times over the years and even went back during day time on several occasions as well with night in later occasions to try to learn what happened.
