Spanish
Poltergeist
by Mia
My story began about six
years ago when I began living with my boyfriend (now husband) in Madrid, Spain.
One night we arrived home late and discovered the TVs volume full blast and
one of my brassieres on the couch. At that time we had a cat, and so we thought
all our queries were resolved.
Some night later, as we were sleeping, my husband woke me up, telling me to
turn off all the lights after I went to the bathroom, but I hadn't gone. Our
apartment was fully equipped with regulating halogen lights. The lights were
all on and turned to their maximum potency, when we always had them dimmed.
More strange things happened as time went on, for example, my husband and I
are fans of two rival soccer teams and we had two little figurines, one for
each team. One day, as I was cleaning up our room, my figurine was standing
up and next to him was neatly placed his severed head. I laughed and asked my
husband what he had done to my figurine. After a laugh, he swore he had not
touched it. I glued the head back on and three days later that same figurine
was missing a leg. I have never found the missing leg.
My husband and I were married in August of 2001 and the following year we had
a baby boy. Things began to become worrisome after my son was born. Just like
in the movies, his toys would turn on at all times of the day and night, by
themselves. At night, he would begin crying hysterically and would only calm
down when we took him into our room. Once asleep again, we would place him back
in his crib in his room and he would begin crying again.
One weekend, the baby stayed at his grandparent's house. My husband and I were
alone. One night, I was quite tired and I went to bed before my husband. I closed
the door behind me so that the noise from the TV would not bother me. As I laid
down in bed, I realized I had to go to the bathroom, so although I did not feel
like gibing I rose and headed for the door, when suddenly I bumped into a man
standing before me. I saw his disheveled hair and Dali-like goatee perfectly.
He was a pale gray color and his eyes sunken into his face.
From the shock, I sat back onto my bed and not believing what I had just seen.
I looked up again to confirm that I wasn't seeing things. He was gone. I opened
the door, somewhat hesitant, and as I did my husband was standing at the door.
He asked me if I had put on the air conditioner (it was late March), but I responded
that I hadn't. He told me that it was strange, that a sudden gasp of cold air
had come out of the room as I opened the door.
At that time, I didn't say anything to him about the man I had seen. My husband
is a little reluctant about these things and I thought he might think I was
a little bit on edge.
Two days later, on Sunday morning, I woke up a little before my husband, but
I didn't feel like getting up from bed, so I turned myself around (feet at the
headboard) and turned on the TV with the control. I lowered the volume so that
I wouldn't bother my husband. He was still sleeping. I turned to look at him
to make sure that the volume didn't bother him. I saw him turned opposite of
me. I saw his feet uncovered and his back slowing moving as he breathed.
After a while, I decided to get up and go directly into the living room. The
closet doors were made of mirror doors and as I got up and looked into the mirror
I suddenly realized that there was no one sleeping next to me. I quickly went
around to the other side of the bed, thinking that my husband was going to give
me a scare, but he was not there.
A bit confused, I went into the living room and there was my husband asleep
on the couch. I quickly woke him up asked how long he had been there. He responded,
about two hours. I figured this was the time to tell him what had just happened
as well as what had happened a two nights before.
We decided that something weird was definitely happening here. A month later
we sold the house and bought a new apartment. As of now, nothing has happened.
