Mutt Said Goodbye
by Robin S.

When we were forced to move seven years ago due to a job closing, we had to find our dog Mutt a new home. We weren't able to take him with us and it broke my heart. We had only had him about two years. He originally belonged to an elderly man who was moving our of state and couldn't take him with him. He was going to have the dog put down because he couldn't find a good home for him. I decided to give him a home. My husband was NOT thrilled, to say the least! Adding a 70 lb. black lab to the homefront was not his idea of the right thing to do. He already owned a small, white half poodle that was his pride and joy.

Mutt moved in and my husband adapted. His dog DJ was always making Mutt's life a misery, fighting with him despite their difference in size. I adored this big teddy bear and he loved me. I cried when he went to his new home and even two months later went back to check up on him in his new home. He came flying to me thrilled to see me. It was sad for both if us when I had to leave and could not take him.

Five years later I was in our living room and my husband was going out the door with the trash. A black mass was wiggling around his legs and as it came into the living room. I saw it was Mutt. He was wagging his tail a mile a minute and what looked like a big grin on his face. He sat down stared at me and I heard, "I haven't forgot you. I have to go now." Then he faded before my eyes, before I got a chance to pet him! I knew he was gone from his body but he still loved me enough to come say goodbye. I'll always love that big teddy bear, Mutt!
