The Ghost in Riding Pants
by Samantha King

I used to live in a house that had a huge picture window and a gigantic front yard. Almost two football fields off to the side was a corn field. We also kept a broken wagon in the front yard to give the house and old fashioned look. One night I just could not sleep, so I decided to get up and get a glass of water. I was standing in the living room peering out into the yard through the picture window. It was a full moon; I remember because the gravel road was almost glowing.

All of a sudden, I see a man making his way through my yard toward the house. I moved to the door, locked it and went back to looking out of the window, but out of sight. All of a sudden, I noticed it was only a man's figure. He was wearing tight riding pants, high-cut riding boots and a floppy white shirt. I stared and stared at him, wondering if I was going crazy. Rubbing my eyes, I looked up a second time and he had made it around the house.

I moved to the kitchen, which was in the back of the house, and saw him walking to the back field behind my house. In about the middle of the field, there was a steep hill that had a very steep slope down. I rubbed my eyes again and he was at the top of the hill, waving his arm like he was trying to get someone's attention. I couldn't believe it. Was this an actual man or was I loosing it? I rubbed my eyes again and he was gone.

I didn't feel scared, threatened or even harmed. I just went back to my room and tried to not think about it.

I woke up the next morning and didn't say anything about it to my mom or brother. About three or four nights later, I heard my mom walking around the house. She can't sleep because her legs hurt her sometimes, so I figured that was what was wrong and quickly fell back to sleep. The next morning we were eating breakfast and she began to talk about this crazy dream she had the night before. She talked of a man in tight black pants, boots and a white floppy shirt walking around in the yard who went to the back,
waved his arm and disappeared!

I turned white and told her I didn't think it was a dream because I saw the same thing four nights ago. We then called up a friend and had her bring a Ouija board over. We got to messing around with it later on that night - Andrea, mom, my older brother and I. We began by asking it if there was anyone with us... it pointed to YES. We then asked it if we knew them... it pointed to NO. The next question was, Are you a male? It pointed to YES.

We got to asking it questions and soon found out that his name was Bill Coke and he was the one outside of our house. He was 28 years of age. Then the eye of the board began spinning out of control. My mom screamed, "Let go of it!" All of our hands threw up into the air and it stopped. We all agreed that Bill Coke had to have been the one walking around our house... looking for someone or something, but as we were communicating with him, an evil spirit tried to come through with him.

We didn't believe that Bill was evil, for he never tried to get into the house or even bother us at all; he was just looking for whatever he had lost.

I will never forget that experience. Later we found out that some of our rocks that outlined our flower beds was part of a tombstone that had the last name Coke on it and the year 1787. It sent chills through my spine and I then looked at the back field and smiled. I just hope that Bill finds whatever he is looking for.
