Co-worker's
Last Goodbye
by Jim
Some years ago, I worked
in an office at a manufacturing plant. There were offices in other buildings.
The woman who delivered company mail between offices always stopped at my desk
to talk. She liked to hear my funny stories and always laughed.
One day she had a serious "falling out" with one of the plant employees.
When she passed my desk that day, she just threw my mail up in the air without
stopping or saying anything. I remember how hollow her eyes appeared as if she
were in a trance. I had never seen such a deathly stare and have never seen
one like it since.
At home later that night, I was watching the beginning of the ten o'clock news when I saw her approaching from the next room! I saw what she was wearing, but could not see her feet. She glided along between me and the TV. She did not obstruct my view of the TV, as if she were appearing in my mind only. She was smiling and waved at me, like we would be seeing each other in the near future. When she reached the center of the room, she flew up through the corner of the room where the walls meet the ceiling.
I was tempted to call her to see if things were alright, but did not for fear that she would think I was crazy. The next day at work, I learned that she had committed suicide the night before at about the time I "saw" her. I am not psychic. I was not watching for her; she appeared to me. I reasoned that she may have felt bad about ignoring me earlier that day, and wanted to say goodbye.
