Disappearing Tickets
by Beverins

This tale happened in Washington DC. Seemingly innocuous, and perhaps can be explained very rationally, but still takes on airs of the paranormal. See what you think.

My wife and I were on a three-day vacation in Washington DC, and on the last day we decided to take one of the tours around the city. We were in luck to manage to find a seat for the last voyage of the day. We were given two tickets, and I made sure to put them in my wife's bag. After I put them in there, I checked again to make sure they were in there, and showed my wife, "Look, tickets are here, okay?" A side note: these tickets were not some small thing. They were fairly large tickets: white strips of paper about five inches long and and an inch wide, with writing and logos all over them.

We went off to explore some more of DC. When the time came to go back to Union Station to get on the tour, we get into the subway station. We sit waiting for the train, and I notice my wife is scrabbling around in her bag with a worried look. No tickets! Knowing my wife is normally very circumspect about such things, we search through the pocketbook and nothing. Thinking that it's stuck on a fold of cloth, or in another pocket, we empty the bag onto the subway bench. Now, this is a relatively small pocketbook bag - this isn't a cavernous hold-all, rather, this bag is only about six inches in length and height and two inches wide. It has two pockets, the main bag and a flat side pocket.

We empty it all out. There isn't much in there. The few papers that are in there we unfold and flap in the air to make sure that there's nothing stuck somewhere. No tickets. I decide that, well, they must have dropped out of the bag somewhere. Oh well. Nervous that we have now wasted the money, fortunately the person who gave us the tickets remembered us and gave us a voucher to give to the driver of the tour. We got on the tour and enjoyed the rest of our day anyway.

Nothing too paranormal, right? Just some lost tickets! Well, here's the punch line. When we got back to our hotel room, my wife opened up her purse and the tickets were right on top of everything, plain as day! My wife took them out of her bag and said was I playing some sort of trick on her. I didn't know what she was talking about, and then saw that she had the tickets in her hand. Dumbfounded, I asked her where the tickets had been, and she said, "Right on top of everything in my bag."

I have no idea how this could have happened. The paranormal believer in me says that we lost them, and some spirit made possible to retrieve them for us, albeit a bit late... perhaps a guardian angel?
