Black and White Apparitions
by R. Wilson

I have not slept at night for close to a month now. I have a nine-year-old son who suddenly will not be left alone in the dark. He especially will not go down the hallway in our house alone. He finally admitted to me that he sees "white things" in the hall. I tried to explain to him that it was probably just his eyes playing tricks on him, as in looking from a light into darkness. The old flashing camera trick. He wasn't buying it, but it did seem to give him a little comfort. But nothing has changed. He is terrified to go anywhere in this house alone and especially at night. Needless to say, we sleep in the day and stay up all night. Now, on to the weird part. I would put this off as child imaginings if I had not been seeing the exact same things for the past eight years. Of course, I didn't say anything to him about this. I finally told my husband this morning. He is freaked. He talked to our son and even got him to draw a picture of what he sees. I had never told my husband of my "sightings" because, frankly, I thought it was just me. I can't stress enough that I have never felt threatened in anyway, just highly annoyed. I get tired of being stared at all the time. I have never tried to speak to one of "them," but we have held "staring contests." The only one I have the contests with is black. The three of four white ones are floaty. My son has only seen the white ones and is terrified of the big one. I confirmed to my husband that, yes, there is a big one with two or three little ones. My husband wants to sell the house immediately and is not happy with me for keeping something like this to myself for all these years.
