Chupacabra in Maryland?
by Mary C.

About a year ago, my friend and I were driving down a street we often travel. It was mostly dark except for a couple of lights that guided the way and a few gleaming from the apartment complexes down the hill. To the side of this street is a fairly wooded area with a open sewer line about a mile away. As we were reaching the end of the street, I noticed a pair of "glowing" eyes. At first I thought it was just a dog or cat - possibly even a rat because they are frequent to the area. The eyes were staring out of a hollowed-out tree that had been that way for many years, ever since I was a kid and walked this street. As we approached the tree, whatever it was began to hop across the street like a kangaroo, but extremely fast. I asked my friend if he saw that and he said no. I just shrugged it off, and thought it probably to be a hurt dog or rat.

A few days passed and we were headed for that street again on way to a friend's house. This time, coming the opposite way - the light must have been in our favor that night because, lo and behold - it came from the same tree and rapidly darted past the car. Only this time we both saw it. It had back legs like a kangaroo, even the forelegs were up like a kangaroo. This thing was no kangaroo. It had a snout resembling an anteater and very red eyes gleaming in the light. As it crossed the street, it stared at the car, probably in fear, seeing as how it ran the last time it saw the car. It was hairy like a rat and it stood about thee to four feet high as it hopped. I don't know what it was, but I have never seen any animal around here that looked like that and neither had my friend. I haven't heard of any weird mutilations in the area and I have never seen it again. It doesn't fit the Mexican sightings of a Chupacabra. It does, however, fit descriptions of a creature in the southwest and southern United States. I know what I saw and it wasn't any documented animal the general public knows about. So now Maryland has a new creature sighting.
