Time Stood Still
by nettdan

In 1986, I had left home at 5:45 a.m. (I checked every clock in the house since it was the first week on the job and I didn't want to be late.) This gave me a 15 minute window to walk to the train station to catch the 6 a.m. to Grand Central, Adelaid, South Australia, which I caught, no worries. I remember freezing while I waited. I would travel each day to Grand Central, about a 50-minute journey, and just have time to catch a connecting train to the suburb where I worked. After getting on board, I huddled up to keep warm and fell asleep. I woke as the train pulled into Grand Central and my watch said 6:54 a.m., which gave me about four minutes to catch my connection. Rushing through the station, I ran into my brother with whom I worked. He was having a very large and leisurely breakfast. I told him to get moving, that we had three minutes left. He looked at me like I was nuts and said we had ages since he had apparently missed his alarm and arrived quite early. Looking at my watch, it said 6:57 a.m. He pointed out it was obviously wrong and that the station clock said 6:05 a.m. Weirder still, it was right. We asked several other passengers who all confirmed 6:05 a.m. How do you travel 50 minutes and arrive at the same time you left? Note: The clock at my home station had also said 6:04 a.m. as I got on the train.
